GDPR Compliance Statement
The European Union has taken a monumental step in protecting the fundamental right to privacy for every EU resident with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will be effective from May 25, 2018. Simply put, EU residents will now have greater say over what, how, why, where, and when their personal data is used, processed, or disposed. This rule clarifies how the EU personal data laws apply even beyond the borders of the EU. Any organisation that works with EU residents' personal data in any manner, irrespective of location, has obligations to protect the data. Perspective Design is well aware of its role in providing the right tools and processes to support its users and customers meet their GDPR mandates.
Perspective Design's Commitment
We recognise that the GDPR will help us move towards the highest standards of operations in protecting customer data and as a result of this make our own compliance, along with the compliance of our clients high priority.
How is Perspective Design preparing for GDPR?
GDPR compliance is an on going task and here at Perspective Design, we have have been preparing for GDPR for almost a year. We have already made sure that we have put in place systems and processes ready for the 25th May deadline. As a data processor, Perspective Design understands its obligation to help clients get ready for the big day. We have thoroughly analysed GDPR requirements by bringing in a third-party GDPR consultant to help us audit our own internal processes. Some of our ongoing initiatives are:
Identifying personal data
We have review the data that we collect and store, along with how we collect that data. This includes defining the purview of personal data and documenting the various sources of data and will go a long way in providing a roadmap for compliance in the days leading up to implementation.
Providing visibility and transparency
The most important aspect of GDPR is how the collected data is used. As a data processor, Perspective Design's key role is to provide our customers (the data controllers) with the access to effectively manage and protect their user data. We are helping our clients to conduct audits to make recommendations and improvements to their business websites without compromising on performance so that they can provide better transparency to their customers.
Enhancing data integrity and security
Data privacy and data security go hand-in-hand. As our customers tighten their data security measures, we also are committed to improving our own security measures. One of the ways that we are doing this is by becoming certified via the Cyber Essentials Certificate.
Portability and transferability of data
GDPR gives end users the right to either receive all the data provided and processed by the controller or transfer it to another controller depending on technical feasibility. With this new right in mind, Perspective Design is working with our clients to offer this from within their website dashboards via the latest Wordpress updates.
